The
concept of Photoluminescent material is not a new development. In early wars,
the Army they would smear it over their hands so as to be able to read Maps and
Signal in hours of darkness. Earlier
Photoluminescent materials have been justifiably considered to be unsatisfactory
as part of safety systems, considered more
suitable for novelty application such as Glow in the Dark Toys.
This conclusion, together with a general lack of familiarity with
Photoluminescent products is reflected in the absence of little or no
allowance for the Photoluminescent materials in Building Codes and Life Safety
Codes.
In
recent years, technology has
greatly advanced the performance and characteristics of Photoluminescent
materials. Together with this, there have been further developments,
new sophisticated ways the
materials are now used, a better appreciation of their unique functions,
abilities for safety applications and a greater variety of types of material to
suit specific safety needs.
Around
the world, there is now also an increasing awareness and appreciation of the value
of well-planned Long-persistence Photoluminescent Emergency egress systems,
which solves several safety and
evacuation problems that are seldom answered by other means. For instance, the
provision of guidelines and direction indicators at ground level can help to
overcome the problems of evacuation caused by lack of visibility and
disorientation in smoke conditions. In doing this, they fore-fill an important
role in the safety fields.
We believe our Photoluminescent materials and systems deserve the earnest
consideration of all those concerned, Building Owners, Facility Manager, Fire
Marshall's, Safety Inspectors, Architects, legislation and enforcement of safety
provisions.

A
Long-persistence Photoluminescent Emergency egress system is a combination of
Photoluminescent materials located in;
-
Buildings,
-
Ships,
-
Defence establishments,
-
Underground railways,
-
Tunnels,
-
Mines etc,
in a manner in which the visible directions help to ensure a safe, and above all
,orderly evacuation and prevention of panic if power fails and:
1.
There is no emergency lighting, or
2.
The emergency lighting does not work or
3.
Smoke obscures the emergency lighting.
Photoluminescent
materials absorb and store light energy when excited by
natural or artificial light sources such as fluorescent light, UV Light,
sunlight, etc.
Once excited, Photoluminescent materials will gradually and
continuously release absorbed energy in the form of visible light for a
period of time even after the excitation source is removed and will
remain visible to
dark-adapted eyes for more than 20+ hours.
The
types of Photoluminescent materials used are:
(1)
Paints,
(2)
PVC Foils,
(3)
Plastic sheet,
(4)
Tapes
(5)
Plastic Marker Indicators.
(6)
Ceramics Markers
(7)
Carpet and Flooring Vinyl's
These
are arranged as stripes, bands or arrows on walls, floors and stairs, on and
around doors, behind emergency equipment, and as printed signs and diagrams.

Plastic Pellets - Masterbatch and Compound
Our range of
masterbatch (colour concentrates) and compounds produce strong
daylight colours with the highest glow output and longevity of any we
have seen in the marketplace.
The colours glow many times brighter than old style zinc-sulphide
based materials and can keep glowing for over 15 hours on each
recharge of light.
The brightness and glow duration can be tuned based on application
requirements, manufacturing process and budget.
Variants of our materials have been used by global brands in
children's toys and comply with BSEN71–3: 1995: BS5665 Part 3: 1995
safety legislative parameters.
Formulations can be tailored to be compatible with most polymers and
processes.
All pellet materials are manufactured to order.
The minimum order quantities for masterbatch is 20kg of any one
colour.
The minimum quantities for compound is dependant upon the polymer,
grade and formulation required.

Technologies
At the heart of our materials are the
phosphors strontium aluminate and or strontium silicate.
The phosphors natural day colour range from off-white to dull green.
When processed according to our patented formulations bright daylight colours
and a wide range of glow colours are achieved with minimal loss of night glow
levels.
Whether used in its raw or coloured form strontium based phosphors can glow for
up to 20 hours (depending on the mix).
The phosphors and colour formulations we utilise are very safe and not radio
active, our materials have even been used in children’s toys by leading global
brands.
We provide formulations compatible with many formats, polymers and manufacturing
processes. Our solutions are highly versatile from a manufacturing standpoint
allowing them to be incorporated into existing products and production
processes.

Toll Manufacturing
Many customers with well
established manufacturing arrangements find that when they wish to
make a single component of their product glow it is more cost
effective and quicker to have the glowing component manufactured
externally.
We have developed relationships with and transferred skills to key
partners who have invested in production capabilities that are
optimised for handling Photoluminescent materials.
We are able to fully manage Toll Manufacturing through our chain of
production partners ensuring that quality components are delivered to
